When do you need a Speech and Language Therapist?

Children and young people can need support from a Speech and Language Therapist for a variety of reasons. Some of these include:​

Attention & Listening

Increasing your child's attention and listening skills so that they can concentrate on an activity for a longer period of time. 

Understanding of Language

Developing a child's understanding of what those around them are saying and understanding instructions which are simple or out of context.

Questions

Supporting your child to answer a question or to follow what is being said to them. 

Words

Learning new words and then putting those words into simple phrases and sentences.

Increasing vocabulary knowledge or topics relating to their curriculum.

Sounds

Producing sounds incorrectly or missing them out of words. 

Sentences & Grammar

Putting sentences together appropriately e.g. missing out grammatical elements, not using the correct sentence structure or finding it difficult to retrieve words.

Anxiety

High levels of anxiety and not wanting to speak to those around them, even though as parents you know that they can. 

Stammering

Supporting your child and your family with a stammer.
